Synchron Stage Vienna

The following requirements were set for the background noise level in the rooms while the building services systems are in operation:

• Limit curve GK5 (18 dBA) in the “Stage A” recording room
• Limit curve GK10 (22 dBA) in the “Stage B” recording room
• Limit curve GK15 (26 dBA) in the “Control A” and “Control B” control rooms

Meeting these values requires a precise acoustic investigation of the building services systems. All ventilation and cooling ducts were calculated and dimensioned for minimal airborne and structure-borne sound transmission, and cross-talk between the rooms as well as the decoupling of all equipment and ducts were taken into account in great detail. An acoustic assessment of the integration of existing old ducts was part of our work, as was the verification of the structural sound insulation and of the protection of neighbours (simulation with the SoundPLAN software).

The sound pressure levels in the rooms were verified with the CATT-Acoustic^TM software in order to include the influence of the room acoustics in the rooms to be protected.

The client set very high requirements for the background noise level in the two recording rooms and several control and editing rooms, since a state-of-the-art recording studio was to be created here."

Particular challenges

A special challenge lay in dimensioning the required silencers and vibration isolators, which was carried out with our own design software and which we manufactured and supplied. High attenuation values had to be achieved with very low flow noise.

Throughout the project duration from February to September 2015 we were on hand for project-accompanying consulting on sound insulation.
